personal curricula and all that
recently there has been this trend where basically you make a personal curriculum for yourself to help you learn something now that you're not in uni. i was mildly interested but didn't do anything about it until a language learning creator that i subscribe to on YouTube uploaded this video, where she basically created a semester worth of 'classes' related to the languages she's currently learning, which are Italian and German, including some activities for each one.
to be honest, it's basically just a list of activities and resources that one might do in their language learning journey. but like Tanya, i too suffer from decision fatigue, where i have so many resources options to choose from that sometimes i end up not studying at all because i get distracted faster than i can choose a good resource for the day. which is ridiculous if you think about it but it's just what happens to me.
so anyway, i sat down a couple days ago and spent a good couple of hours curating resources and activities that i want to do for the next, say, three months. i know a semester is usually six months but i want to see how this goes and if i'd be able to stick with it. the main goal here right now is just to be consistently studying every day, because consistency is something i've always struggled with, especially without any accountability. (i've always wanted to have a reliable accountability partner but it's so hard to find one — that's a topic for another day though.)
here are the 'courses' that i'm planning to take in the next three months:
- Practical Oral Communication in Korean (원어민과 유창한 대화)
- Reflective Writing in Korean
- Korean Media and Cultural Discourse
- Narrative Expression in Korean (한국어로 하는 스토리텔링)
- Mindful Communication in Korean (정신 건강 및 마음챙김)
i have to admit that i'm looking forward to tackling this so much! i know it's not that different from what i've already been doing but giving it uni course-style names really makes me excited for some reason :-)
let's see how this goes!
